Do you remember the “Hee-Haw” variety show? One of my favorite scenes each week was when a couple of fellows in a field started to sing:
“Gloom, despair, and agony on me – Deep dark depression, excessive misery.
“If it weren’t for bad luck – “I’d have no luck at all,
“Gloom, depair, and agony on me!”
Sort of reminds me of the human condition. We love to sing a sad song. We love to complain about all our problems – and all the things we find wrong about the world.
But ADVENT calls us to stop cursing the darkness. Instead we should LIGHT A CANDLE.
