It’s Simple – sermon video for June 16, 2013

Below is the sermon video for The Patterson Avenue Baptist Church, in Richmond, Virginia.

The date for this sermon was June 16, 2013.

The sermon title is “It’s Simple” and is based on Galatians 2:15-21…

Here’s the passage of scripture:

“We who are Jews by birth and not sinful Gentiles know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.

“But if, in seeking to be justified in Christ, we Jews find ourselves also among the sinners, doesn’t that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! If I rebuild what I destroyed, then I really would be a lawbreaker.

“For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

Are you “living by the rules,” or are you letting God’s grace rule you?

There’s a big difference between the two. If you’re living for God–living by the rules–you’ll always be exhausted. You’ll feel that you’re not doing enough for God and that if you don’t “measure up,” He will be displeased with you.

But God never meant for the Christian life to be that way! His Love for us isn’t based on how we perform for Him. He sent Christ to set us free from rules. He didn’t call us to serve Him in our own feeble power, but to let His power flow through us–a power that is without limit!

What’s more, this power is already available to us right now. God has provided everything we need for a truly meaningful, joy-filled life here on earth…all because of His marvelous grace.

Rest in God’s grace, and let Him live through you. Find out how in Grace Rules.

This message IMO, becomes even stronger if you allow the translation “I live by the faith OF the Son of God”. The form of the noun “huios” there is a genitive according to my interlinear, and certainly not an attributive genitive, which acts like an adjective, so no reason I see it shouldn’t be a possessive genitive.

This is one of those cases where I think the KJV gets it right, and there are several other places where “faith of” should replace “faith in” in my opinion. Great word though.
