I preached a sermon in which I said something to the effect: “God is your best friend. God is a wonderful Father who is so proud of you. If God has a pocketbook, your picture is in there. If God has a refrigerator God has put your works of art all over it. When the angel gather in the throne room of heaven, God grabs his photo album which is fills with pictures of you. He is so proud of you.”
An 87 year old man, who has been in that church from birth, came to me with tears in his eyes, saying: “Pastor, I have been in this church all my life and have heard hundreds of sermons that told me that God loved me. Today was the first time I’d ever heard a sermon in which somebody told me that God liked me.”
