Jesus Is Not Generic

“I’m Just Saying…”

Is there anything better than the phrase “God LOVES You?”

YES!

Here’s the deal:  we make LOVE so theological & philisophical that it often ceases to have reveal the real passion for a relationship. How about this? “God LIKES you!” God wants to hang with you. God thinks you are worth the investment of time and energy for… building a relationship.

So who are the YOU God likes? Well YOU are the YOU, of course. BUT the YOU is also the people YOU might not like. “I love them, but I don’t like them.”

Well, that just won’t do, will it?

If you are a Christ-follower, then God’s Holy Spirit in you is prompting you to like others – to invest time, energy, and effort into relationships with them. Being their friends. Hanging with them. Not to CONVERT THEM – but simply because God likes them – and wants to like them through us.

So, how might that change our lives? How might that changes our churches? What if we and our faith community actually LIKED people – people like our gay neighbor, the foul mouthed guy across the street, the Muslim businessman, the hispanic waitress, etc.

Sorry, I’ve moved to meddlin. This stuff is so much easier when it is generic. The problem is that Jesus was never generic, was he?

I’m Just Saying…”
